Woodley

Bio for Thomas Woodley, President of Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East Thomas Woodley has been CJPME’s president since early 2008, and the organization has seen dramatic expansion and growth under his leadership. In terms of academic background, Tom has a BS EE from Carnegie-Mellon University and an MS EE from Stevens Institute of Technology. Tom also has an MPA from Indiana University’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs, with a focus on Public Policy and Public Finance. Tom has a strong professional background in the public sector, having worked in Federal government for several years. He is also experienced in project management and organizational development. Tom also has long experience working in the NGO and volunteer sector, having volunteered for several international NGO’s in Africa and the Middle East. Tom has been involved with CJPME since it’s founding in 2004. Bio for Ilan Pappé, guest speaker on tour in Canada, hosted by Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East Dr. Ilan Pappé was born in Haifa to German-Jewish parents who fled Nazi persecution in the 1930s. He graduated from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1978, and got his PhD in history from the University of Oxford, UK in 1984. Dr. Pappé is currently a professor at the University of Exeter in the UK, and he is Director of the university's European Centre for Palestine Studies. Prior to Exeter, Dr. Pappé was a senior lecturer at the University of Haifa from 1984 until 2007. He was fired from the university in 2007 after he had taken a public position in support of the international boycott of Israeli universities. Pappé is considered one of Israel's "New Historians" who, since the release of pertinent British and Israeli government documents in the early 1980s, have shed important new perspective on the creation of Israel, and the corresponding dispossession of the Palestinian people.
